Where is Liverpool FC’s cult hero Daniel Agger now?

Between 2006 and 2014, the former Danish defender Daniel Agger represented Liverpool FC. During that time, the heavily tattooed footballer fell in love with the club from Merseyside. Aged 31, the defender surprisingly called quits on his professional career while playing for Brøndby. Nine years later, however, the former footballer is living a very different life.

Sewage company

In 2016, Agger announced his retirement stating that he was forced to take painkillers to deal with his back problems throughout the latter stages of his playing career. A couple of years before that, the Dane was perhaps already thinking about calling quits soon when launching a sewage company called KloAgger with his brother and a family friend in 2013. Daniel Agger has been involved as an investor, whereas his two partners manage the daily operations.

In 2022, he sold the sewage company to Recover, but Agger’s brother Marco is still the managing CEO as KloAgger continues to operate independently.

Tattoo artist

Besides this, Agger also turned one of his biggest passions into a career: tattoos. The former defender has been a trained tattoo artist for several years and has also co-founded Tattoodo, a platform where you can find and book a tattoo artist that fits your style and needs. ‘’My passion for tattoos runs deep in my veins, and that’s why I co-founded Tattoodo,’’ Agger stated on his Instagram.

Agger got his first tattoo when he was still a teenager. ‘’I was about 15 years old on a school trip to Paris. It’s not something I thought before’’, he told the Daily Star. Since then, the former footballer has nearly every part of his body filled with ink. From the love heart on his calf to Liverpool’s famous YNWA on his fingers. ‘’I see it as a whole. When I talk to people, I talk about my tattoos as a piece but obviously every tattoo has a story, some are better than others.’’

The Agger Foundation

During his time at Liverpool, Agger also got inspired to give back to the community. In 2011, he started The Agger Foundation. The foundation aims to raise money and bring awareness to numerous charitable organisations and projects, in particular causes regarding children in need. Besides this, the foundation has also raised money for people suffering from illnesses, disabilities, family issues, homelessness or educational problems.

‘’For some time I had been wondering how I could help make a difference to people who, for one reason or another, had found themselves in difficult circumstances,’’ Agger says on the foundation’s website. ‘’I found that there might be a special need for to help children and ensure that more people get a good start in life.’’

Agger has also co-founded a second-hand shop called Loptimisten, which is located in Copenhagen. All profits of the shop are given to The Agger Foundation.

Managerial career

In 2021, Agger decided to return to the football world by becoming the manager of the Danish football club HK Køge. On the club’s website, he stated that the idea of returning to a new role in the football industry and testing himself has grown on him in recent years.

After two seasons in charge of the club, Agger left the role by mutual consent. In August 2024, Agger returned to management as he became an assistant manager of the Danish national football team.
